drought is being experienced all over the county.
According to the County government, recently
while in search of water, a thirsty lion fell and died in a domestic water tank
in Kukub village, Banisa constituency which has a population of more than 5000
people. In this region, the crisis has not only affected the people and their
livestock but the wild animals as well. Hyena invasion near homesteads in the
county has been on the rise owing to scarcity of water resources.

another location in the Constituency with a population of more than 6000 people
is facing serious water shortage. Other areas as reported by the county
government that are also facing water shortage include; Bur john location in
Mandera North constituency ,ogorweine ,ashabito,Yado, Falama, Kuro, Garse,

Speaking
during water stakeholders meeting held at the County Headquarters,Ahmed Ali

facing a serious water shortage which might lead to loss of both human and
livestock population unless an urgent mitigation measures are put in place”
The
National Government has not released
funds for the financial year 2013-2014 hence the County government will not be
able to adequately respond to emerging
signs of water shortage which typical of the start of harsh dry spell which
often turns to drought.
The
County government is therefore appealing to non-state actors to help while the
County government will push to get the budget funds released to them by the
National government.
